Frequently Asked Questions
How does counselling at Foundations work?
After reaching out to Foundations, Danielle will be in touch to get a sense of what you are hoping to get help with and match you with the therapist she feels can best help. The most critical factor in whether counselling will “work” is the relationship between you and the therapist. Danielle prides herself on making sure your therapist is the “right fit.” Once paired, you and your therapist will set up a first session which can be virtual, by phone or in person.
How long will counselling take, and how long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long. In the first one-to-two sessions, your therapist will get to know you and build a relationship with you while getting a history and making a treatment plan together. The length of therapy depends on the issue and your goals for counselling. We work collaboratively with you towards your goals and do our best to get there in a timely manner. After the first session, we can give a better estimate of the length of treatment.
Does counselling mean talking about my past?
Many people believe that therapy is all about talking about your past and childhood and blaming your parents! While exploring your history is a critical part of therapy, it is directly related to finding growth and change in present-day struggles. Therapy is about the future: how can you be present now to create the life you want. We explore how to stay in the present without all of the roadblocks from the past, so that you can move forward into the future and achieve the life you want.
What is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)?
We are registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. This means we belong to a regulatory body for Counsellors to ensure that we adhere to ethical practices and hold a Master’s degree in counselling psychology.
Does my benefit plan cover clinical counselling?
Please check with your plan before booking to see what your coverage is. Some plans cover Registered Social Workers or Registered Psychologists. Look for coverage of a Registered Clinical Counsellor. For private counseling we issue you a receipt that you submit to your plan for reimbursement.
What are the fees for the sessions?
Fees vary depending on the therapist you are seeing as well as if it is individual, couples or a family session. Please check rates listed beside each therapist in their bio.
How do I pay for the sessions?
At Foundations Counselling, we make payment simple and seamless. You can securely save your card to your Jane account, allowing automatic payment processing after each session. We also accept e-transfers on the day of your appointment. Once payment is received, an invoice will be issued that you can submit to your benefits plan, if applicable.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 48 hours notice to cancel or change an appointment or the full-session amount will be charged.
Who does Foundations Counselling see?
We see people of all ages and all different backgrounds, political affiliations, genders, and sexual orientations. We are LGBQT+ allies.
